Location
Access Information
Accessed via a narrow, winding cliff-top road often described as challenging, especially for larger vehicles or nervous drivers. Parking is available near the beach but is extremely limited and prone to severe congestion during peak season, sometimes leading to temporary road closures by Gardaí. A shuttle bus service has operated previously during busy periods to alleviate parking issues. Overnight parking is prohibited. The Mayo CoCo site mentions a "Car Free Zone", likely referring to restrictions near the beach itself during peak times.

Reviews Summary
Overwhelmingly positive reviews consistently rate Keem Bay as stunning, beautiful, and breathtaking, often calling it one of the best beaches in Ireland or even the world. Common themes include the spectacular views (especially on the drive down), the clear water, the golden sand, and the sense of remoteness. The challenging, narrow access road and resident sheep are frequently mentioned, adding to the adventure. Parking difficulties during peak season are also noted. Many reviewers mention its appearance in "The Banshees of Inisherin". It's recommended for swimming, walking, and simply enjoying the scenery, even in colder weather.
(MumE26, Mar 2025, Couples) "It was cold and windy at the end of February when we visited but the view from the road as you drive down to Keem Beach didn’t disappoint. I remember this view vividly from a childhood memory. It remains as breathtaking now as it did then. Stunning place . Well worth a visit. Be careful not to run over the bold lazy sheep laying in the middle of the road on the way in. 🤣"
(Zana Sucic, Mar 2024, Family) "My daughter loves this place! This was our second experience like a family trip. First time we went 201819. Beautiful beach"
(Ciarrai2014, Oct 2024, Family) "Well worth the drive out to here. The views all around are very good and hard to beat. You have a sense of being away from all the hustle of life!"
(AlbertSalichs, Nov 2023, Friends) "Keep Bay is located in Achill Island, in Western Ireland. It is a very nice bay, which has a sandy beach. We came here last November, so we could only walk and relax, but not sunbathing or bathing. Really, Walking barefoot is very nice and relaxing. Also, you can see very beautiful views of the coast and surroundings. Very nice option, also in autumn."
(Trout21, Oct 2024, Solo) "I have been around this funny old world and especially the west coast of Scotland and Ireland, but I think this was possibly the most beautiful beach I have seen. If you can climb up above it as it really shows the setting. No wonder it was chosen for the film, the Banshees………"
(Nomad07143987359, Sept 2024, Family) "Beautiful beach and amazing views from above the beach. Drive was adventurous thanks to roads and sheep! Weather was great when we went."
